Sometimes I Fist Pump

One of my favorite students wrote this little gem about his dancing choices.

You can't argue with logic like this:

I hope your Easter weekend is full of fist pumpable moments.

Yi from Slacker and Steve!

I'm famous!  Kind of.

I am running a community service project at my school to benefit the Children's Hospital.  It is really starting to take off!

To help celebrate my students, I emailed Slacker and Steve, two famous radio hosts here in Colorado.  Slacker and Steve run their own fundraiser for Children's Hospital, so I figured they might want to hear about our work as well.

To my surprise, they emailed me back! And not only that, they want to help find some prizes to give our students.

I can't believe I got a personal email from them!  What will happen next?!

The email:

"WOW!!!

Can you guys be anymore AWESOME??!!

We are going to ask our Promotions Department if they have any ideas or resources to help out your cause, Emily!

We are so humbled by your email and your efforts to help the kids of Children's Hospital!!!

Did we mention that you are awesome??!!

Here's To The A's!

This week is one of importance for three of my best friends - and I wanted to take a second and celebrate you.

(And also I want to show off my new favorite website, http://whatshouldwecallme.tumblr.com.)

Shout Out to Allison!

Happy 30th birthday, pretty girl!  The first week we met you told me: "Punctuation is the way to a better life."

As always, you are right.

You teach me so many important lessons.  But most of all, the importance of taking a memorable picture.

30 is lucky you have you. xoxo.

Shout Out to Alyssa!

I am so sad that you are leaving me for 6 weeks for work!  But I guess I can forgive you, since you are going to my favorite place - Uganda!

Life will be empty without you.  After all, you are the life of the party, and who is going to help me make the most of my afternoons?

You are going to have a blast working in the field - I can't wait to hear all about it!

Uganda is lucky to have you.  xoxo

Shout Out to Andrew!

I am so very happy that you found your dream job!  I am less happy that it means you have to move to Canada.  It's really cold there.

You have found your calling.  Now go get called.

I'm not sure when I will see you next, but remember that I will always have your back, and that I am excited to come visit.
In the summertime.

Oh, also, I'm really sorry for that time that I refused to go on safari with you in Kenya. The face you made at me still haunts me.

The world of  the employed is lucky to have you.  xoxo.

I ♥ Boobies

I confiscated this little gem from an 8th grade boy today:

Thank God Spring Break is a day away.

I Hate Pedro.

It is that time of year again. Nope, not spring time.  Not NCAA basketball season.  It is CSAP time! CSAP (Colorado Student Assessment Program) is our state standardized test, and I get to administer it to special education students for two whole weeks on my own. Yessss!

Did I mention that I get Pedro in my 9th grade testing room? Pedro who shouts out while I am talking.  Pedro who wanders the room to hit other students while they test.  Pedro who needs to get a drink every 10 minutes.  Pedro who stole 7 mints from my bin.

I confiscated this drawing today.  Another student drew this of me.

I don't know if it is the orange unitard or the incredibly accurate hair and hoop earrings, but this drawing made my day.  And reminded me that I should probably try to not hate my students anymore.

And maybe I need to brush my teeth more often.

The Blood's On The Wall

I know, we've all been there.  You come home, and there is blood dripping down your white painted walls.

What? We've haven't all been there? Oh, well, allow me to rewind.

Baby Bear has been scratching.  A lot.  So much so that he has scratched some wounds into his head. He also has a ear irritation and feels the need to shake his ears.  Which, when combined with the wounds, produces this:

But Emily, I thought Bear was an angel!

Turns out this angel has a very serious food allergy to chicken.  And conveniently I have been feeding him lots of chicken.  In his food.  In his treats.  In the treats he steals from Marley.  Yes, I made my poor puppy want to scratch his own fur off.  Whoops!

After begging and pleading for him to stop didn't work, we ended up here:

After the vet released us, I asked my friend how one should proceed to removing blood from white paint.  She told me that "people in that business use hydrogen peroxide and a squirt bottle".  And by people in that field, she did of course mean crime scene investigators.

So, hydrogen peroxide it is for bloody walls (you're welcome for that useful tip).

During the (3 hour) clean up session, the muffin waited outside.

Where all the other dogs laughed at him.

So, to re-cap:  our house is gluten free, chicken free, and chocolate free (during Lent).  You don't want to come over for dinner, trust me.

So, Anyway

I have always been intrigued by the concept of "So, Anyway" friends.
Those people that you don't see every month, or even every year.
You might miss birthdays, or haircuts.  You might miss boyfriends, or jobs.
Before you connect again.
Yet, once you do connect, all you have to say is...So, Anyway...

This summer I will travel the world with three of my So, Anyways.

I invite you to celebrate with me what will definitely be one of the best summers of my life.

Joanna Claire Noble

I sat behind her on a bus, and I knew that I had found my soulmate.
She is born and bred in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.
We fell in love at Camp Rising Sun in 2001; spending hours at the peanut butter and jelly snack counter.

We have survived many challenges...including:

- the year that my mother bought us all matching ear-warmers for Christmas
- my 20th birthday when I passed out in the bus lane in Nottingham, UK and then crawled under Claire's bed and threw up (shhhhhh, it's a secret, don't tell her!)(I blame the sambuca)
- the summer in Italy we spent trying to prove that one can lick one's elbow

Looking forward to conquering Paris with you.
And also that little event in September, oh yeah, your wedding!

The last time I saw you, my love, you hadn't even met your fiance yet..
hmm...Sooooo, Anyway...

Nicola Buhler

We were always meant to be friends. Across the ocean.
My mother met Gaby, from Germany, when she was a young woman living in Paris.
Years later they each gave birth to a daughter in the same year.

We grew up together as children.

We travel together as adults.

Next up in June 2012: a house boat adventure in France
to celebrate our mothers' 60th birthdays!

Unable to speak the same language, we did not have a conversation until we were 18.
Thank you, Nicola, for mastering English.
Although I enjoyed it when you screamed at me in German.
After 18 years, all we needed to say was: So, Anyway...

Allison K Peterson

My other half.
Who moved to Kosovo.
Leaving me to do yoga airplane moves alone in front of my students.
Who taught me everything I need to know about teaching.

Who dressed up as Mass Hysteria to my Swine Floozy.
Who convinced me to get a tattoo with you.

Who I once watched an ABC family movie with via speaker phone.
Who inserted "I mean", "XOXO", and "Why am I...right now?" into my daily conversation.
Who will show me around Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia and Prague this summer.

Who I have talked to only three times since you moved,
but we haven't missed a moment.

So, Anyway...
